yep. the exact one from the link. i wanted one that was brand new and called the whole eastern seaboard looking. after about 45 gunshops i found it in the tiniest little gunshop in northern florida. it is two tone black with the muzzle break. it was a special edition with only 300 guns being made for ellett brothers. i got it for about $500 cheaper brand new then i saw it going for used like 3 differant times. patience was the key and i will keep you updated here. thanks a lot.

That's great! Which model is it -- is it like the one you mentioned on GunBroker?

These things are an absolute blast to shoot (pardon the pun). Ammunition isn't cheap, but handloading can mitigate that greatly.

I hope you report back when you get it, and when you take it hunting.

I'm sure many readers feel exactly the same. It seems like years since obtaining primers was a trivial undertaking; powder's not much better, and apart from the scarcity, prices are heading through the roof.

I think the supply scarcity is a combination of the factors you cited. Given that the shooting sports were somewhat stagnant in the late 20th century, manufacturers probably haven't expanded their capacity much in recent times, and the Middle East engagements pushed demand to near capacity.

But, the stuff was still available before Obamamania. Now, everyone's afraid that the next pound of powder or box of primers will be their last, and they're buying and hoarding. Same thing happened with firearms sales shortly after the 2008 election. Remember how hard it was to get, say, an AR-15 lower a year ago? Ironically, Obama's doing what I feared he might: making it tougher to shoot. The only wrinkle is, he's not doing it with regulation, but rather by fueling explosive growth in demand.

I do think hope is on the horizon, though. A source at Federal told me that they were about to open a third production line for primers that would greatly increase their output. I have to imagine similar efforts are going on at Hodgdon, Hornady and other leading suppliers of reloading components. The stuff's going to be expensive, since we consumers have proven that we're willing to bear the higher prices, but at least it will be available.

Hang in there...

I continue to wonder at the selection, or lack therof, loaded ammunition. I've been reloading for more years than I want to think about, but components are getting hard to come by. I can understand "military" calibers being i short supply, but propellant and primers..? Government contracts can explain part of it but powders that aren't in their inventories seem short too. Or has our seige mentality caused all this? I've got more hunting loads than I'll probably ever use, but rimfire .17 caliber? First it was they couldn't make it fast enough, but pricing has gone from $8 to almost $14 a box for 50 rounds of 17 HMR. Ouch! But it's still cheaper than therapy.

I don't remember that particular .460 model. The quoted 14" barrel almost certainly includes the compensator, so the ballistics will be akin to the 12" barrel offered now.

Just so you know...that is going to be one LOUD wheelgun. Pretty large, too. If you're cool with that, though...looks like it could be a good piece.

Just out of curiosity...what are you planning on using it for?

thanks a lot michael for the e-mail and i will ask my next question here now that i am signed up.

i think after further review i am leaning more towards the xvr hunter rather than the compensated hunter. with that said, i recently found a model on gunbroker.com that is two-toned black and stainless and also has a nice muzzle break(from the factory). are you at all familiar with that because while i feel i would be more than capable of handling the recoil without the compensator this gun really grabbed me right away. if i had the money now, i would guarantee myself a high bid. LOL...

check it out before it ends.

ScopedIn has been live for about a year now, and I think we've reached the point where we can get some benefit from a modest set of forums. They're brand new (as of today, they're not even available through the main ScopedIn site), so there's bound to be bugs.

The forums are YOUR opportunity to share your thoughts with the rest of the ScopedIn community. I know these things start slow, but I want to see these forums become successful and useful. So, please...contribute and point out problems!

Thanks!

Hi -- I'm the guy who started ScopedIn. My interest in guns and hunting is relatively recent (there's a detailed story on the main site) but the passion runs deep. In about three years, my arsenal has grown from one revolver and one rimfire rifle (both inherited from my father) to about 30 guns. I'm an avid reloader and can do a pretty fair action job on S&W and Ruger revolvers.

I've been hunting only a few times, but I've bagged a nice hog and some pheasant.

I'm hooked.

I hope you all enjoy this forum.
